Set in a bespoke replica of a 1650 Dutch frame – the original, in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, frames the marriage portraits of Johan van Someren (1622-1676) and Elisabeth Vervoorn (1617-1657).

This painting of Suracusa citrus and Verdino figs celebrates heritage fruits and the farmers who have grown these for centuries. Some heritage fruits have protected status, e.g., Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). For this painting, Siracusa lemons (PGI) and Tarocco and Moro oranges (PGI) were sourced from a heritage farm near Siracusa in Sicily (Danilo Magnano), and traditional Verdino figs were ordered from Siro Petracchi in the hills above Florence. The bespoke replica of the 1650 frame adds to the celebration of tradition and heritage.
